Total Energy Dec 2008 - Nov 2009
Total Photovoltaic Generation KWh 4722Kwh
Total used in House 1979KWh
Total exported to Nat grid 2743HWh
Total Imported from Nat grid (Day only) 2583KWh

These figures which are based on actual meter reading clearly indicate that solar energy is viable for 8 months of the year, the remaining four months requiring power from the National grid. The installation is only a viable proposition on the basis that it over the period of the year what is taken from the national grid is returned during the summer months along with a small additional amount generated. Just under 2/5ths, approximately of the total generated is used in house.

based on the return for the year 08/09

It appears that for the year 08/09 the total return off the costs was:- £291.00 balance
plus the cost of electricity for the year which was.........................................£440.00
Plus the value of the units used in house @ 13pKWh................................. £257.00
return was:- ........................................................................................................... £998.00

The cost of the installation at this address was approx £28,500.00 2009 therefore even at the present rates of return it will take 26+ years to pay for itself excluding interest earned on the invested capital.
However if the proposals in the Governments bill 7/2009 are implemented as is i.e the 50% of what is currently being paid by my electricity supplier Southern Electric then the monies invested will never be recouped as the total monies paid for exported energy will be absorbed by the cost of the imported units at today's costs for power it would take a life time to recoup the monies invested.
